# SKA Consulting Engineers > SKA Consulting Engineers is a multi-discipline engineering firm serving the built environment, founded in 1957 in Greensboro, North Carolina. SKA provides structural, building enclosure, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, roofing, waterproofing, structural repair, commissioning, and forensic investigation services across North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and the greater Southeast. The firm began in 1957 as a one-man structural practice started by John V. Sutton, became Sutton-Kennerly & Associates in 1958, and was renamed SKA Consulting Engineers in May 2012. Service lines were added over time — roofing and waterproofing in 1986, mechanical/electrical/plumbing in 1987 — growing SKA into a multi-discipline firm. SKA works on new construction, renovation, and repair. A distinguishing characteristic is the combination of new-design engineering with a dedicated structural repair and building-forensics practice, backed by in-house materials and corrosion testing (petrographic analysis, infrared surveys, water and air infiltration testing, coating and concrete testing).
