David Tepke, PE, FACI was back in Pensacola, FL last week at the International Concrete Repair Institute – (ICRI) Gulf South Chapter’s Spring Technical Conference. He thanked Don Yarbrough, Bryan Wood, and Chapter leadership for inviting him to share “A Tale of Tradition, Teamwork and Trust: Preservation of the Charleston County Historic Courthouse” (co-authored with Neal Frasier). Thanks also to conference attendees for a great experience.
SKA Consulting Engineers, Inc. was honored to the Building Envelope engineers in the Courthouse preservation project and to work with other team member Charleston County Government, WxTite, Meadors, Inc., Construction Materials Consultants, Inc., Master Innovations of SC, and others. The cornerstone of this historic structure was laid in 1753 for what was then the South Carolina State House during the British colonial period. For perspective, this is just one year after Ben Franklin flew his kite in a lightning storm, a few years before John Smeaton conducted his experiments on hydraulic lime and blended cements, and a few decades before the U.S. became a nation.
For those interested in learning more, a companion article on the project co-authored with Davis Tepke, Kalen McNabb, Neal Frasier, Dipayan Jana, and Paul Wood, is available in the September/October 2025 ICRI Concrete Repair Bulletin. https://www.icri.org/…/concrete-repair-bulletin…/
