Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, North Carolina was originally opened in 1955. At the time it was the largest unsupported dome in the world and the first free-spanning dome in the United States. The building’s signature domed roof spans approximately 332 feet in diameter and is approximately 112 feet tall. SKA has the honor of the being the Engineer of Record on the ongoing roofing/waterproofing project. Scott Singleton, PE, RRC out of SKA’s Greensboro office is the project manager and Jeff Varri out of the SKA’s Charlotte office is acting as the onsite field technician.
Team: Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority, Tecta America Commercial Roofing, and Sika USA.
Although not directly involved in this project Eric Couch PE, as a second-generation Charlottean that has been to numerous events at this facility, including his high school graduation a few years back, thinks it is really cool to be part of the team working on this project. For those that have been to this coliseum before what was your favorite event (concert, game, circus, truck rally, etc.)?
P.S., for those unfamiliar with the Sikalastic RoofPro-664 Lo-Voc System, the red is the primer, not the final color.
