This historic courthouse was experiencing serious deterioration of the upper level terra cotta façade and interior finishes. SKA teamed with a restoration contractor to disassemble and examine a portion of the terra cotta balustrade and architrave. Sources of water intrusion and deterioration of embedded steel anchorage, as well as structural supports, were documented. SKA prepared restoration documents and monitored construction that included a new roof, new structural steel framing within the facade, and replication and replacement of the entire perimeter balustrade and water table, as well as the architrave and soffit on the north and south faces, with glass fiber reinforced concrete members.
