SKA provided MEP and building envelope commissioning for the renovation of the Carolina Theatre which was originally constructed during the late 1920’s and utilizes a combination of structural steel framing and multi-wythe (mass) masonry exterior walls. Interior finishes include wire lath reinforced, portland cement plaster on relatively large sections of the interior walls and ceilings. Sections of the wall and ceiling plaster had been removed due to water damage resulting from past roof leakage. Renovations included construction of a new tower structure and the Foundation For the Carolinas, which is immediately to the south of the Carolina Theatre, would adjoin the new tower. Among other cladding systems, the new tower utilized ACM panels, aluminum curtainwalls, and a cable-supported curtainwall system. SKA provided recommendations for water management on selected areas of the new exterior envelope systems. MEP provided commissioning of the HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems.
