As part of the 2016 ConnectNC Bond Referendum, University of North Carolina at Greensboro was provided $105 million to complete the design and construction of a new Nursing Instructional Building and South Chiller Plant on the Greensboro Campus. While the two structures are part of the same project, they are two independent buildings and were constructed at two different locations on UNCG’s campus. The 180,000 sf Nursing building replaces McIver Hall and provides a state of the art learning environment for the Nursing, Biology and Chemistry schools, including skills, research and simulation laboratories. The highlight of the building is the five story atrium that will connect the offices and classrooms vertically with floors above and below.

On behalf of the owner, SKA performed one of many site visits on the building envelope installation. SKA observed the installed sheathing for proper anchorage, installation of the monolithic air barrier for thickness, gaps and proper joints and installation of the new floor line flashing. This quality assurance provided another set of control measures to all the team members.
