SKA provided structural engineering services for Wake Forest University’s South Hall – designed to be the first LEED Silver certified building on the Reynolda Campus. Demonstrating WFU’s commitment to sustainability across campus, the facility includes multiple eco-friendly design strategies, such as an abundant of natural light from double-paned aluminum windows that match the style of older buildings on campus, while providing high-efficiency, low maintenance, and energy savings. The residence hall also includes energy-efficient appliances in the kitchens, high-efficiency washers in the laundry room, and individually monitored thermostats in the rooms. The four-story freshman, co-ed residence hall features a media room, classroom, two study lounges, recreation space, two kitchens and lounges on each floor, and was designed to house 201 students in a corridor-style layout. The main entry features a two-story parlor with a balcony overlooking the tiled entrance atop a dual staircase.
