Waterlake Dam

Working with the City of Hamlet, SKA performed an engineering assessment of the hardened concrete of this 1920 vintage dam structure to visually identify distress conditions within the hardened concrete structure, provide an opinion on the general condition of the dam, and make recommendations for repairs. SKA determined the general condition of the dam’s exposed surfaces of the spillway and wing walls revealed the strength and integrity was in fair to good condition. However, the sub-grade supporting the stepped spillway race was significantly eroded and compromised the stability of the stepped spillway and side retaining walls. Voids as much as 32 inches in depth were found, as well as undermining of the side retaining wall footings near the tailing ends.
