SKA provided structural engineering services for a multi-phased design for replacing the existing Scott and Walker Residence Halls. The first phase consisted of the new 932 bed residence hall located on the lower Main Campus in Cullowhee, North Carolina. The project consisted of the construction of 239,000 sf multi-storied building. The project was phased to allow for the existing residents in Scott and Walker to remain until they were relocated to the new building. After existing residents were relocated, Scott and Walker were demolished to allow for parking and site amenities. Residence halls named after local mountains: Shining Rock, Water Rock and Black Rock. The project was completed in June 2023, Black Rock was the last to be constructed. Project features include mountain lodging-style community rooms, as well as outdoor spaces offering firepits, ample greenspace and designated hammock areas. Dorms are pre-cast and four and five stories.
