SKA provided multi-disciplinary services including a structural peer review, design, building envelope commissioning and quality assurance testing during construction. As the structural engineer of record on this four-story, 70,600 sf addition, our design incorporated three elevated structural steel framed floors of occupiable space in addition to the floor slab on grade. The MOB1 addition is located on a sloping site and is laterally stabilized using structural steel moment frames. Interface with the existing MOB1 and linear accelerator vault required special accommodation of the new addition framing relative to the existing structure footprint and exterior walls. On a separate contract, SKA provided exterior building envelope commissioning services during the construction of this new MOB1 addition. The scope of work included review of the building envelope elements noted in the construction drawings on planned site visits as well as review of material product submittals. During each site visit, SKA documented non-compliance items followed by communication with the architect of record, the construction manager and the owner on a weekly basis throughout construction. As an additional service, the owner retained SKA for storefront and curtainwall air and water quality assurance control testing of the newly installed fenestrations.
