SKA Consulting Engineers has been engineering buildings in the Southeast since 1957, when John V. Sutton opened a one-man structural practice in Greensboro, North Carolina. The firm has grown to seven offices across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. Our Triangle office is in Cary, a short drive from Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, and Research Triangle Park.
Every SKA office works the same way. Structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineers are in the same firm as our building enclosure, roofing, testing, and forensic investigation teams, so a project in the Triangle can be designed, investigated, and repaired by people who already work together. Engineering services in the Triangle
Owners, architects, and contractors call this office for one of two reasons. Either a building is going up or being renovated and it needs structural and MEP design, or a building is already standing and it leaks, cracks, or does not perform the way it should, and someone needs to find out why.
For new construction and renovation we provide structural engineering, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection design, commissioning, and peer review. For existing buildings we handle building enclosure and roofing assessments, waterproofing and leak investigation, concrete and corrosion evaluation, structural repair, and forensic investigation, backed by our own testing division.
Who we work with in the Triangle
Much of our work is for hospitals and health systems, colleges and universities, K-12 schools, cities and counties, parking deck owners, and multi-family developers. We also engineer churches, historic buildings, industrial plants, airports, and athletic and aquatic facilities. The Triangle is dense with universities, research buildings, and hospitals, and the firm has worked on more than 30 college campuses, including NC State and UNC Chapel Hill. Laboratory and healthcare work puts a premium on mechanical and electrical design, and on commissioning that proves the systems do what the drawings say.
The area we cover
The Cary office covers the Triangle and eastern North Carolina: Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary, Apex, Wake Forest, and out toward Greenville, Rocky Mount, and Fayetteville.
